On June 10, Susan Garrett, a native of Seymour, will celebrate 50 years of music ministry. She began playing the piano at 3. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Church and School and took piano lessons from Norma Barkman.
As a small girl, she began playing piano for Girl Scouts, the American Legion Auxiliary programs and her grandmother’s card club every Wednesday night. The women knew that before playing cards they had to hear “Susie” play for them.
Before Immanuel’s original church was torn down, her grandmother made certain that she had the opportunity to play its pipe organ.
