Column: Governor's annual arts awards celebrate state creative bounty

The holiday season is upon us, and I would like to begin with a word of thanks to everyone involved with the arts in Indiana.

Our state has such a rich history in the arts. From the mellow sounds of Wes Montgomery’s jazz guitar to the comedic talents of Red Skelton, Hoosiers have been at the forefront of their respective artistic disciplines.

I take this opportunity to remind you of the upcoming deadline for nominations to the 2013 Governor’s Arts Awards. This event will be of special significance as it will be the first such awards for our Gov.-elect Mike Pence. What a wonderful opportunity this will be to showcase the very best in Hoosier commitment and contribution to the arts.
