Grant assists sewer system

A recent $550,000 federal grant will help give the residents of Hayden and Hickory Hills something many people take for granted — a sanitary sewer system.

The grant from the Waste Water and Drinking Program will be added to $2,690,000 in local funding amassed through loans and other grants obtained in the past for the western Jennings County project.

Pat Sullivan, president of Hayden Wastewater Utility Inc., said the wastewater collection and treatment project has been in the works for nine years and likely will provide service for 160 to 170 customers.
