Group opposes utility increase

A consumer watchdog recommends that a proposed Indiana American Water Co. rate increase be rejected and that the utility reduce its rate.

The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor filed a report May 2 with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission that the company’s annual operating revenues should be decreased by $11.4 million, a 5.5 percent decrease.

The water company asked for permission in January to adjust rates for water service of all of the company’s operating districts, which includes Seymour.
