Group seeks to boost financial smarts



A lack of financial literacy is a growing problem, according to a local banker.

Blake Fish, branch manager of MainSource Bank in Seymour, said graduates from high school and even college are taught how to read and write but not how to budget, maintain a checkbook, handle debt or plan for the future with savings.

So he was excited to attend Tuesday's meeting for the Jackson County Financial Literacy Coalition — the first meeting since it was formed through a Leadership Jackson County project this year.

"Money is something that can cause people so much stress," Fish said.
