Guard yourself against spiritual self-delusion

Fellow disciple, if things have been going very well for you for an extended period of time, then either you’re having a wonderful “mountain top” experience or some self-delusion has crept in unawares.

If it’s the former, then congratulations and give God the glory. But could you tell if it’s the latter? Life could be going great because it’s unencumbered with essential discipleship duties that are being left unfinished.

If things are too easy for too long, then remember Jesus never intended for his disciples to live on a spiritual “easy street.” While discipleship is the best possible life, it also should be one where there are, at times, difficulty, tension or outright conflict between you as Jesus’ disciple and your carnal self; or you and the world; or you and Satan.

Jesus said that we must take up our own cross daily. (Luke 9:23)
