Jacob A. Tolbert, 24, of Elizabethtown, was charged late Thursday afternoon with two felonies in the hit-and-run death early Sunday of a Vallonia man.
Tolbert, who was the driver of a pickup truck that was seen striking Thomas L. Brazell, is charged with reckless homicide and failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, both of which are Class C felonies. A conviction on either of the felony charges carries a penalty of two to eight years in prison, as well as a fine of up to $10,000.
The incident took place about 1:45 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Caddies Bar, 2761 Central Ave., Columbus. Tolbert was discovered at the home of a friend at 8:40 a.m. that day, and later arrested.
Tolbert can be released from the Bartholomew County Jail sometime Friday after meeting the bond, which was reduced Thursday to $35,000 surety or $3,500 cash.
