Holiday Inn site rezoning on table

Seymour Common Council will discuss the future of the former Holiday Inn property on East Tipton Street when it meets tonight.

In 2010, the city approved a request from Skaggs Builders in Seymour to rezone the 3.3-acre property from commercial to multi-residential zoning for development.

At that time, Skaggs was in negotiations to purchase the property from Cimito Inc. of Indianapolis. Skaggs proposed a $6.5 million project to convert the building into 76 apartments to complement the existing Somerset Apartments it operates north of the property.

Under a restrictive covenant, the city agreed to the rezoning only if Skaggs purchased the property and carried out those plans.
