There was intensity to the end of Indiana’s 101-53 blowout of Ball State on Sunday at Assembly Hall. And that’s not talking about the Hoosiers’ players.
That’s expected in Tom Crean’s program. It was the fans who remained at a fever pitch in the waning seconds as Hoosier sophomore forward Austin Etherington hit a driving lay-up to give Indiana its 99th and 100th points. Etherington was fouled on his drive and he also buried the free throw.
Whether Indiana could reach the century mark was the only drama on a night when Crean’s players tuned up for Tuesday’s match-up at Assembly Hall against North Carolina with a public flogging of the Cardinals.
While some fans finally started heading toward the exits at the 3:55 mark with Indiana up 92-45, most of them stayed until the bitter — for Ball State — end. They weren’t disappointed. If Crean wanted his players sharp going into the game against the Tar Heels, he must have loved Sunday’s effort.
