INDOT plans to develop ex-car dealer site in Brownstown

The state plans to spend more than $1.5 million to convert a former automobile dealership in Brownstown into a garage for the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The new Brownstown unit to be developed at 700 N. Main St. will replace an older unit at State Road 135 and U.S. 50 west of the county seat.

The project will consist of extensive renovations of the former Bob Thomas Chevrolet dealership and the construction of a salt storage barn, said Harry Maginity, a spokesman with the Indiana Department of Transportation.
