A blast of arctic air blew in enough snow Thursday night to turn Jackson County and surrounding areas white and black, prompting headaches for area motorists.
Sheets of black ice turned area roads into ice rinks and accounted for wrecks across the region, police said.
Emergency responders jumped from one slide-off to another and closed roads so wreckers could pull vehicles out of ditches and medians Thursday night and Friday morning.
Officers responded to calls from motorists needing assistance all across the county, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department dispatcher Rhonda Clark said. None involved serious injuries.
“We had several, but there were no serious accidents,” she said. “That’s always a good thing.”
