Southbound Interstate 65 is closed at U.S. 50 because of a problem with a bridge near the 48-mile marker, according to the Indiana State Police.
This closure may be in effect for several hours, Sgt. Noel Houze reported shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday.
Houze said a patch of the pavement was needed.
Harry Maginity of the Indiana Department of Transportation said crews were on the scene of "pavement blowout or a pavement failure" in the right lane.
Southbound traffic is being directed onto U.S. 50 east to U.S. 31 and then south to State Road 250 at Uniontown, where traffic can re-enter southbound I-65 from Exit 41.
Northbound lanes remain open, Houze said.
