All Interstate 65 lanes in Jackson County are now open, Indiana Department of Transportation reports.
All lanes have been opened between the Taylorsville and Memphis exits. The interstate had been shut down since this morning because of poor road conditions and wrecks all along the route.
The state reported that some counties have travel advisories limiting travel to essential or emergency situations, including the need to drive to work.
The snow has stopped falling, the wind has died down and the sun has appeared, helping state road crews gain ground on the snow and ice, said Harry Maginity, a spokesman with the Indiana Department of Transportation's Seymour District.
"They think they should have pretty good highways by rush hour today and have things pretty well cleaned up by nightfall," he said at 3 p.m. Tuesday. "People still need to drive with caution."
Maginity said crews would remain on the roads overnight, looking for drifting and slick spots.
