The Indiana Department of Transportation and Indiana State Police have closed Interstate 65 — both northbound and southbound lanes — between Exit 16 at Memphis and Exit 76 at Taylorsville.
Ice, snow and a number of crashes along this section of I-65 have prompted the roadway’s complete closure until issues can be resolved, Harry Maginity said. He is a spokesman for the department's Seymour District.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Carothers said police were investigating at least 10 vehicles involved in wrecks and slide-offs at the I-65 55-mile marker, five miles north of Seymour. They involved a mix of semis and passenger vehicles, he said.
Some injuries were reported, he added.
The Seymour area had received three to four inches of snow between 4 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. accompanied by winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts reaching more than 30 mph.
