Although the flu season doesn’t typically begin until January, a handful of people in Jackson County already have been infected by the virus in the past couple of weeks.

“We’ve had some admissions with flu,” said Anita Root, infection prevention specialist at Schneck Medical Center.

Flu is an illness caused by flu viruses that infect the respiratory tract and can include many symptoms such as fever, body aches and coughing.
