HAYDEN

A 36-year-old Jennings County man was killed Friday night in a head-on collision east of Hayden.

Scott Lucas of North Vernon died of injuries from a two-vehicle wreck reported at about 7 p.m. on U.S. 50 near Jennings County Road 450 West, said Trooper Matt Holley of the Indiana State Police Versailles Post.

Lucas was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion westbound on U.S. 50 when his car crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2004 International flatbed tow truck driven by Larry Brown, 21, of Shepherdsville, Ky., Holley said Sunday afternoon.

Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene, and Brown complained of pain to his wrists, police said.

“The vehicles took a heck of a hit,” Holley said. “The front axle was torn out on the tow truck, and the motor of the Fusion was torn out of the car. It was thrown 30 feet beyond where the car came to a stop.”
