Two years ago, as a freshman swimmer at Seymour High School, Alex Hawkins set the school record in the 100-yard backstroke, and she was named co-most valuable swimmer of the girls team.

The next year, though, setbacks prevented her from having a standout season.

But this winter, as a junior, Hawkins broke her own school mark in the backstroke and placed second at sectional; swam the 200 individual medley for the first time in her career and finished third at sectional; led the team with 200 points; and received the most valuable award for the second time of her career.
