Measure reinstates tax that funds jail operations

Gov. Mike Pence’s desire to have legislators sustain his veto of a measure “legalizing and validating” overpayment of $1.1 million in a special local income tax in Jackson County failed to draw much support Wednesday.

That’s when both the House and Senate met at the Capitol in Indianapolis for what lawmakers called a Technical Correction Day and overrode Pence’s veto of House Enrolled Act 1546-2013.

Provisions of that act allow Jackson and Pulaski counties to continue collecting an income tax to fund jail operations.
