Preliminary Notice of Potential
Conversion of Prime Farmland
The USDA, Rural Utilities Service has received an application for financial assistance from the Town of Hayden. As required by the National Environmental Policy Act, an Environmental Assessment has been prepared that evaluated the potential environmental effects and consequences of the proposed project. The proposed project consists of 38,300 feet of low-pressure sewer pipe, a new recirculating sand filter treatment system, and a drip irrigation land application disposal field. The treatment location and drip irrigation field will be located along the west side of CR 700 W south of Base Road. If implemented, this project will potentially convert 2 acres of prime farmland.
The purpose of this notice is to inform the public of this proposed conversion and request comments concerning the proposed project, alternative sites or actions that would avoid these impacts and methods that could be used to minimize these impacts.
A copy of the environmental assessment, as well as the Historic Preservation Section 106 documentation, is available for review at the Hayden Water Association: 6970 W US Highway 50, North Vernon, IN 47265. Any person interested in commenting on this proposed project may submit written comments to the USDA Rural Development at 2600 Highway 7 North, North Vernon, IN 47265 by 30 days from the first publication date for this notice.
