Letter: Cartoon bashing Catholic Church offensive

Louise Brooks

Crothersville

To the editor:

I found the cartoon in Thursday’s paper (March 21) extremely offensive on a number of levels.

First, the suggestion that an all-male priesthood is oppression against women is ridiculous. Oppression means the imposition of unreasonable burdens, either in taxes or services; cruelty or severity.

Women can serve God in many, many ways and seem to have more opportunities in the Catholic Church than many other churches. Scripture reminds us that the human body is made up of many parts and if the various parts don’t work together, the body won’t work; so it is in the church. There are many people with many different roles, and if we all do our part, the church works.
