Letter: Juvenile offenders need local support, services

To the editor:

In response to “Jackson County Jail, Dollars & Sense?” The Tribune front-page article, Tuesday, July 29, 2014, I cannot believe that anyone would suggest closing the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center and changing it into a facility for women that are being held at the county jail.

First, why was a juvenile center built when the jail was constructed?

There was a need, and I am sure that Judge Robert Brown and Sheriff Herschel Baughman (who were in office at that time) were instrumental in seeing that the need was met.
