To the editor:

The Tribune reprinted an editorial April 5 that was originally published by the Bloomington Herald-Times. The editorial dealt with U.S. Sen. Dan Coats’ reaction to being banned from Russia by President Vladimir Putin and Coats’ Twitter posting of the “Top 10 Things I Won’t Be Able To Do Since Putin Banned Me From Russia.”

I agree that Americans, and politicians especially, should not make light of an international crisis. However, I have a more personal reason to be offended by Coats’ remarks.

Lilly Endowment annually awards up to 100 grants for educators in the state of Indiana. Each grant is for $10,000 and is intended to fund a six-week project that encompasses at least three weeks of travel.
