Letter: Students, faculty should be allowed to carry guns

Part of The (Portland) Commercial Review’s response in its editorial that appeared Jan. 30 in The Tribune concerning state Rep. Jim Lucas’ House Bill 1048 legislation is that by allowing students or faculty to legally carry weapons it would encourage campus violence by the mere presence of a gun.

How many of those who committed shootings at schools or at the movie theater in Colorado had permits to carry weapons? None. The legislation proposed by Lucas makes sense. Let people exercise their God-given right to self defense.
