Brownstown Central High School boys basketball head coach Dave Benter now knows who he will be coaching in the upcoming All-Star games.
Mr. Basketball Trey Lyles of Indianapolis Tech headlines the 13 seniors on the 2014
IndyStar.com Indiana Boys All-Star team. He recently earned McDonald’s All-American, Parade All-America Team and Gatorade Player of the Year for Indiana honors.
The University of Kentucky recruit averaged 23.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a senior while leading Tech to a 27-2 record and the Class 4A state championship.
Lyles collected 117 votes for the Mr. Basketball honor, while Trevon Bluiett of Park Tudor received 108, James Blackmon Jr. of Marion was third with 95 votes, and Bryant McIntosh of Greensburg and Tyler Wideman of Lake Central tied for fourth with seven apiece.
Those five players are joined by Grant Evans of Wapahani, Tayler Persons of Kokomo, D.J. McCall of Fort Wayne Concordia, P.J. Thompson of Brebeuf Jesuit, Jeremie Tyler of Indianapolis Tech, Zach McRoberts of Carmel, Mack Mercer of Plymouth and Sean Sellers of Greensburg on the All-Star team.
Benter is the head coach of the team, and his assistants are James Blackmon Sr. of Marion and Clint Swan of Crown Point.
The Indiana Boys All-Stars will play exhibitions against the Indiana Junior All-Stars on June 9 at Logansport and June 11 at Columbus North. Indiana also will face the Kentucky All-Stars on June 13 at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., and June 14 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
All four dates will be doubleheaders with the Indiana Girls All-Stars. The exhibitions with the juniors will have girls playing at 6 p.m. and boys to follow, and the games against Kentucky will have girls playing at 5 p.m. and boys to follow.
