Little sick time here: Snow days produce fewer flu cases

All of those days that area schools missed in January might well have had a benefit — fewer cases of the flu.

Anita Root, infection prevention specialist at Schneck Medical Center, said there have been five confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu strain in Jackson County this month, down from 18 reported in January.

She credits the many snow days schools have had, keeping the flu from rapidly circulating among youngsters and entering into homes via classroom interaction.
