Community health fair Oct. 4 in Columbus

The 2012 Community Health Fair sponsored by Aging and Community Services will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at FairOaks Mall, Columbus.

The theme is “Never Too Old To …?”

The public is invited to meet and greet community health care and senior-friendly companies at this free event.

Information booths, wellness screenings and Medicare information and counseling will be available.

Management accountants plan monthly meeting

The monthly meeting of the South Central Indiana Chapter of Institute of Management Accountants will be held at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 20 at Clarion Hotel in Columbus.

The meeting is open to the public.

This month’s format will be different than those of the past in that there will be three key speakers instead of one.

This session offers one hour of continuing professional education.

Lunch will be available beginning at 11:45 a.m. The meeting will end by 1 p.m.

The cost for lunch is $18 for members, $20 for guests and a discounted rate of $6 for retirees and students.

Erik Riutta, Kathy Peters and Mark Mandel are all from local Toastmasters chapters and will cover the following topics: leadership skills, impromptu communication skills and effective, prepared presentations.

Chicken barbecue to benefit fire department

Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department will offer its annual chicken barbecue starting at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Pork burger sandwiches also will be available.

The meal, which includes sides, drinks and homemade desserts, will be served in the Cortland Elementary School cafeteria.

Proceeds will benefit the fire department.
