Longtime volunteer honored with achievement award

Kevin Gabbard couldn’t hold back the tears when he was surprised with the Dr. Joseph Black Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 50-year-old Seymour resident was honored at the annual dinner for the Boys & Girls Club of Seymour. He is one of the youngest to be named a winner of the achievement, which dates back to 2000. The award honors a longtime supporter of the club, the late Dr. Joseph Black.

Gabbard said seeing his name among a list of great mentors he’s always admired, including John Brooks, whom he calls a hero, was emotional.
