A 10-day mission trip to the Dominican Republic not only gave youth from Seymour Christian Church a chance to serve, it helped them value what they have.
The 16 teens and seven adult chaperones ran a sports camp and vacation Bible school in the cities of Santa Cruz de Mao and Navarrete in the Caribbean nation.
Youth pastor Dan Weaver organizes the annual trip as a way to support the work of local minister Michell Marte and to teach the young people about living a godly life.
Rachel Jenkins, 15, said, “My favorite part was bonding with all the other kids and seeing the smiles on the children’s faces after we taught them how to hit a volleyball overhand.”
The free sports camps serve as a way for the church to reach a large number of older youth in the country, especially those living in poverty.
