Man arrested on battery charge in North Vernon

A 20-year-old Jennings County man faces charges related to a report of a fight Tuesday night in North Vernon, police report.

Rocky Viles Jr. of North Vernon faces two counts of battery with injury in the presence of a minor, intimidation and strangulation after the incident reported at about 9:30 p.m. in the 300 block of South Gum Street, according to a report from Officer Justin W. Black.

Black, the department’s public information officer, said the battery and intimidation charges are Class A misdemeanors while the strangulation charge is a Class D felony.

Police said during the investigation they were able to determine that a man living at the residence fought with other residents of the the home.
