Man drowned in pond while fleeing police; toxicology reports pending

A 25-year-old Jackson County man who died this week while swimming away from police officers in a Jennings County pond drowned, officials said Wednesday.

The preliminary cause of death for Nathaniel Phillips of Seymour is freshwater drowning along with hypothermia, Jackson County Coroner Roger Wheeler said.

Those results came from an autopsy conducted Tuesday at the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.
