A Jackson County man escaped serious injury but not arrest Wednesday after he flipped his vehicle while trying to avoid capture, police report.

Timothy J. Smith, 23, of Seymour, faces charges of driving while suspended prior, resisting law enforcement and reckless driving after the incident, reported at 1:39 p.m. in the 2000 block of East Tipton Street.

Police Chief Bill Abbott said the incident that led to Smith’s arrest began when police were called to investigate a report of shoplifting at Walmart Supercenter at 1600 E. Tipton St. Two people were arrested as part of that investigation conducted by Cpl. Jason Wynn.
