Police arrested a man who said he was showing off his car's handling ability when he fled from an officer on State Road 258 near Acme on Saturday.
Jackson County Sheriff's Department arrested Sherman McElfresh III, 42, of Freetown following a pursuit between Acme and Freetown, Reserve Deputy Scott Davis said.
McElfresh was arrested for resisting law enforcement involving a motor vehicle, a Class D Felony, and reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor. McElfresh remained in jail Sunday afternoon.
"Fortunately, there was no eastbound traffic during all of this," Davis said Sunday. "Otherwise there would have been a fatal accident because at the speed he was traveling and dropping into the eastbound lanes, there's no way he could have recovered in time."
