A man was killed in a shootout with sheriff’s deputies Wednesday afternoon in a cemetery east of Franklin after the deputies said the man aimed a gun at them, Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox said.

The suspect was warned to stop but pointed a gun at the deputies. It is unclear who fired first.

The Johnson County sheriff’s deputies involved in the shooting were not injured. The Indiana State Police is investigating the shooting, and four witnesses who live nearby have verified the deputies’ account of what happened, Cox said.
