The Medora boys basketball team opened the Class A Sectional 61 on Tuesday night against a Springs Valley team that defeated the Hornets by 30 points in the second game of the season.
Both teams have improved since then, but it was the Blackhawks who improved the most as they advanced to play Trinity Lutheran in Friday’s semifinals by downing the Hornets 68-42.
“It was a tough one,” Hornets coach Andrew Evertts said. “I thought we played really well in the first half, and we had it down to three in the second quarter. Valley is good, and they are better than us, but we worked hard, and I am proud of my kids and proud of my seniors.”
The Hornets got off to a slow start in the first quarter as the Blackhawks pushed out to a 7-1 lead.
