Mentor’s work earns honor as Volunteer of the Year for county

Macy Williams felt nervous and shy when she first met her Big Sister, Mindy Douglas, through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Indiana.

But that was more than six years ago, and today, Williams, a seventh-grader at Brownstown Central Middle School, refers to Douglas as part of her family.

Through the one-on-one program of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Indiana, which serves Jackson, Jennings and Scott counties, a younger person is paired with an adult mentor to spend time with on a regular basis.
