Rarely has a personnel matter been as black and white as the one concerning sexist and racist emails apparently circulated for many months by V. Bruce Walkup while he was a board member, and even board chairman, of Ivy Tech Community College.
At least Walkup, a former IndyCar driver and bank executive, had the decency to resign from the board. He apologized for any offense he’d created. Little enough.
The scandal rightly raises questions about Walkup’s communication with college and state government leaders, and ethical concerns about Ivy Tech’s hiring earlier this year of Rob Carter Jr., former head of Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources.
