Middle school bowlers headed to state

The Seymour Middle School bowling team recently qualified for the state meet, which is set for Saturday at Western Bowl in Indianapolis.

Semistate was Saturday at Cooper's Sport Bowl in Anderson. In the team competition, Trace Cooper, Xzavier Hamilton, Davidian Gambrel and Zackary Ellerman combined to score 669, 698, 584 and 657 for a 2,608 series and place sixth.

In the singles competition, Cooper advanced to state with a 790 series, rolling games of 160, 204, 211 and 215. Hamilton missed the cut by 22 pins.

Check-in for state is noon, and bowling begins at 1 p.m.

On May 3, Seymour competed in the Muncie Regional. Jaryn Holtsclaw and Jared Rockey bowled in the sixth-grade group, while Cooper, Gambrel, Daniel Leland and Andre Sides were in the seventh-grade group, and Ellerman, Hamilton, Morgan Able, Madison Brackemyre, Addison Lambert and Ty Gray competed in the eighth-grade group.

Other members of the team that were not able to make the trip to regional were Stefan Justice, Kammon Simpson and Matthew Russell.
