I can remember sitting near the top of Market Square Arena in Indianapolis in the 1990s and watching the Chicago Bulls — my favorite NBA team at the time — take on the Indiana Pacers.
Over time, though, I became a Pacers fan. I don’t remember when or why, but I’m sure my brother, Josh, had some influence in that.
Pacers star Reggie Miller retired in 2005 after 18 years with the franchise, and I remember being at the game the next year when his No. 31 was retired at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. I captured a picture of the message board in the middle of the arena as the banner was raised, and later, I realized Miller’s silhouette was over part of the banner. Later, when I got the picture developed, I thought that was pretty cool. I still have that picture.
