As a special education preschool teacher, Angie Schepman of Seymour thought she understood the challenges and emotions that went with having a special needs child.

She spent each day learning how to communicate with her students and helping them progress, both mentally and physically.

But her experiences in the classroom couldn’t prepare her for the news her own baby would have trisomy 21, more commonly known as Down syndrome.
