Throughout the years, Jacob Newkirk and Taylor Royalty have been through the whole gamut of sports.
Before high school, Newkirk played football, basketball and golf, while Royalty played soccer and basketball and had tried other sports growing up.
At Trinity Lutheran High School, Newkirk began soccer because the school didn’t have football, and he also played basketball, baseball and even picked up tennis one year. Royalty doubled up in the fall with soccer and cross country her freshman year before finishing out with cross country, track and field and basketball.
Newkirk was a member of four sectional-winning teams, two in baseball, one in soccer and one in basketball, and Royalty had individual and team postseason success in cross country and went to state twice in track.
Their athletic success didn’t go unnoticed, as it recently was announced that they were selected as the TLHS senior athletes of the year.
