No gas leak; Vectren says malfunction caused steam release

Vectren Energy said that what was first thought to be a natural gas leak Tuesday afternoon at a facility north of Seymour was a minor malfunction.

“There was not a gas leak,” Natalie Hedde, manager of corporate communications for Evansville-based utility, said Wednesday. “We were called simply because there was steam that was released in the air.”

Vectren was called to investigate at the unmanned pipeline station at 8694 N. State Road 11 around 5:30 p.m., she said.
