Wouldn’t it be nice if God would always offer an immediate response when you pray?

That’s typically not how it goes though, is it? You lay your needs before the Lord and wait … and wait ... and wait. At least that is how it feels, especially when you are facing periods of uncertainty in your life.

In the midst of uncertainty, we all have a natural tendency to want to lean on ourselves, or something, or someone else. We depend on and trust in the things we create or that were created by someone else. These things help bring structure, familiarity and order to our uncertainty. And there is nothing wrong with that. It is the image of God in us that motivates us to create order from chaos.
