Opponents concerned proposed change would make event less family friendly, lead to more public intoxication

Brenda Turner sees no reason to allow beer and wine sales at the Indiana State Fair.

As director of the Jackson County Drug-Free Coalition, Turner said allowing activities that sell alcohol such as beer gardens would hurt the family-friendly atmosphere for fairgoers and threaten public safety.

“It’s a great message to share with our community, to have events like this without needing alcohol,” Turner said.
