New ground wasn’t exactly broken last month when gubernatorial candidates Mike Pence and John Gregg selected women as their running mates.
The Indiana lieutenant governor’s position has been held by a woman since 2003 — two women, in fact, both with regional connections.
For the past seven years Becky Skillman, who drew a nod from Gov. Mitch Daniels, has served in that position. Skillman, of course, represented most of Jackson County in the Indiana Senate. She’s a Bedford native.
