Trinity Lutheran boys tennis coach Gary Welker said his team had a case of the nerves during Wednesday’s season-opening match against Oldenburg Academy at the Richard Snyder courts.
The coaches agreed to play super tiebreakers instead of full third sets. Three of the matches went to tiebreakers.
“I think we just had some first-match jitters,” Welker said after the Cougars lost 3-2. “You could see a lot of that going on. It cost us a couple of matches, but all in all, I’m pleased. As always, we’ve got some things to work on, but I see a lot of potential in this crew this season.”
