BEDFORD

Paxton DeHaven knows she didn’t have her best round of golf in Saturday’s sectional at Otis Park Golf Club at Bedford.

But the Seymour junior did enough to move on to regional for the third straight year, shooting an 8-over-par 80 and placing second.

The top three teams and top three individuals from a non-advancing team qualify for regional. Madison won with a 355; host Bedford North Lawrence was second with a 363, and Salem was third with a 379. The other individuals advancing are Jennings County’s Paige Meeker, who shot an 88, and Mitchell’s Hannah Tanksley, who carded an 89.

There were 13 teams at the sectional, but only nine had a full squad. Of the Jackson County teams, Seymour placed fifth with a 386; Brownstown Central was seventh with a 436, and Trinity Lutheran only had two girls.

DeHaven started strong with a birdie and two pars before running into a little trouble and ending up with a 7-over 42 on the front nine.
