Police are investigating a hit-and-run wreck Friday night that left one teen dead and a rural Medora boy injured near the Lawrence-Jackson county line.
Kassie Yoskovich, 16, of West Main Street in Medora died from injuries in the collision, the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department said.
Noah Brown, 14, of rural Medora, was injured and flown by air ambulance to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, according to an accident report from the sheriff's department.
The Lawrence County coroner was called to the scene Friday night, where Yoskovich was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an accident report.
The wreck, involving a mo-ped on which the Medora High School students were riding and the vehicle that left the scene, described in the accident report as a truck, occurred at 6:35 p.m. Friday on George Johnson Road in the Leesville area, Lawrence County Sheriff SamCraig said.
"It appears they were traveling and met in somewhat of a curve," Craig said of the vehicles. "They were going opposite directions."
A vehicle that Craig described as a "vehicle of interest" has been found in connection with the wreck. He declined to say where that vehicle was found or whether anyone had been questioned about the wreck.
Area volunteer firefighters and ambulance crews responded to the scene along with officers from the sheriff's department and the Indiana State Police.
