When the Seymour High School volleyball team won the Purdue camp tournament this past summer, junior Jessica Lucas had a feeling good things were in store for the fall high school season.
The Owls made it to the Class 4A semistate finals in 2011, so there were high expectations for 2012.
They managed to live up to those expectations, winning the Jeffersonville Invitational, maintaining a top 10 ranking in Class 4A and then battling through a tough sectional and winning regional before suffering a five-set loss in the semistate semifinals. They finished with a 30-6 record.
“We had a really good summer, especially at the Purdue camp to start out,” Lucas said. “So I thought we were going to come out pretty strong, and we did. We were hoping to get back to where we were at last year, and we did that.”
