Owl sets record, earns medal at state meet

After suffering an injury last year as a junior and then dealing with another one at the start of his senior season, Seymour pole vaulter Ben Coomer wasn’t sure if he would accomplish his goals of setting the school record and making it to the state finals.

Near the end of the regular season, though, he returned to the lineup and wound up placing second at sectional and regional, including setting the school record at 14 feet, 6 inches in the latter meet.

Then during Saturday’s boys track and field state finals at Indiana University, Coomer cleared 14-9 to extend his school record, placed eighth and earned a medal.
