Seymour senior Logan Personett said the experience of playing basketball since she was in elementary school paid off for her at the end of Tuesday night’s Hoosier Hills Conference game against Jeffersonville.
Personett made five free throws with one second remaining to give the Owls a 51-47 win against the Red Devils in the Lloyd E. Scott Gymnasium.
Jeffersonville took a 47-46 lead on a basket by Haley Vogen with 10 seconds remaining. Seymour’s inbound pass was fumbled, and Personett picked up the ball and dribbled five feet across the midcourt line and put up a desperation shot.
An official ruled Personett was fouled in the act of shooting and awarded her three free throws with one second on the clock. She made the first one to tie the game.
“I was just confident with myself,” Personett said of making the first free throw. “I was like ‘I’m going to make these.’ You can’t have any doubt or else you won’t do it, so I think the experience helped.”
